P500 monthly wage hike for C. Visayas ‘kasambahays’ by October – DOLE

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) on Tuesday said domestic workers in Central Visayas will receive a P500 monthly salary increase starting next month.

Under the newly issued Wage Order No. ROVII-DW-06, the minimum monthly wage rate for ‘kasambahays’ or domestic workers in the region, including the provinces of Negros Oriental and Siquijor, will increase to P7,500 from P7,000.

The effectivity of the new minimum wage rate starts on Oct. 14, the Dole said.

Tolentino said the wage adjustment will be reflected in the workers’ benefits, such as in their 13th-month pay and contributions to the Social Security System, PhilHealth, and Pag-IBIG. 

As part of the wage-determination process, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board in Central Visayas conducted consultations and public hearings with the labor and employer sector representatives, as well as other stakeholders, the agency explained. /gsg
