MANIBELA suspends transport strike to meet with LTO

Transport group MANIBELA has suspended its strike to hold talks with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Tuesday.

The group said its representatives will go to the LTO office at 9 a.m. for a meeting, according to a report of Ivan Mayrina on Unang Balita.

Tension was reported on Monday between protesters and some personnel of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) during MANIBELA's protest.

MANIBELA chairperson Mar Valbuena confronted LTFRB personnel after he alleged that they were taking photos of the license plates of jeepneys participating in the strike.

But LTFRB acting chairman Greg Pua clarified that the personnel were taking photos of passengers who were having difficulty getting rides.

According to Pua, the photos would be used to determine when and where free rides should be deployed to assist commuters affected by the transport strike.

While MANIBELA suspended its three-day strike, another group PISTON launched its two-day strike on Tuesday.

PISTON demands to bring the price of diesel back to P55 per liter, remove the excise tax and value-added tax (VAT) on petroleum products, and repeal the Oil Deregulation Law.

The group also called for a P10 fare increase. —VAL, GMA News
