President Cyril Ramaphosa and First Lady Dr Tshepo Motsepe will cast their votes at Hyde Park High School in Johannesburg on Wednesday, 4 November, as South Africans head to the polls for the 2026 Local Government Elections.

The President is expected to vote at 10:00 at the voting station in Hyde Park, Sandton.

CYRIL RAMAPHOSA URGES REGISTERED VOTERS TO VOTE IN LOCAL ELECTIONS

The South African previously reported that Ramaphosa declared Wednesday, 4 November, a public holiday in terms of Section 2A of the Public Holidays Act of 1994 to allow South Africans to participate in the local government elections.

The President has called on all registered voters to use the public holiday to exercise their democratic right and civic duty by casting their ballots.

He said the elections provide citizens with an opportunity to elect local public representatives and influence service delivery in their communities.

South Africans will vote to elect councillors who will represent them in municipalities across the country for the next five years ushering in the seventh administration of local government.

EMPLOYERS URGED TO ALLOW EMPLOYEES TO VOTE

Meanwhile, the Minister of Employment and Labour, Nomakhosazana Meth, has called on employers and employees across the country to work together to ensure that eligible workers have the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to vote as South Africans will head to the polls on Wednesday, 4 November.

The Department of Employment and Labour encouraged employers and employees to engage proactively and make reasonable workplace arrangements to support voter participation while ensuring that operational requirements and service delivery commitments are maintained.
