Listyo highlights women as leaders of change
Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo highlighted women as leaders of change, rather than merely participants in it.
"Women are not just part of change, but they can also be leaders of change," Listyo said in a statement on Sunday.
He made the remarks while opening the 63rd International Association of Women Police (IAWP) Annual Training Conference 2026 in Bali on Sunday.
The international conference, themed "Women Leading Global Change," highlights the importance of women's participation and leadership across various sectors.
Listyo said strengthening women's role remains relevant amid the gender equality challenges facing the global community.
On the occasion, the police chief cited the 2025 WEF's Global Gender Gap Report, which projects that full gender equality could still take about 123 years to achieve.
He then emphasized that the situation calls for greater female participation and leadership across various sectors.
The commitment to strengthening the role of women is also being promoted within the Indonesian National Police. Indonesian Policewomen have served since 1948, with their roles and contributions to this day.
Out of more than 450,000 National Police personnel, approximately 6.2 percent, or 29,000 members, are policewomen.
Listyo also highlighted the HeForShe Award he received from the IAWP in 2023, where he described the award not only as an honor but also as a reminder to continue fostering equality and expanding opportunities for policewomen to develop.
He noted that this commitment is further demonstrated through the annual HeForShe Award, which recognizes policewomen who have achieved excellence.
Through the IAWP 2026 conference, he expressed hope for policewomen from various countries to continue strengthening their capacities and networks, while playing an active role in driving meaningful change.
He said differences in nationality, experience, and background should not prevent policewomen from working together to drive change.
"Together, we empower women, strengthen the police force, uphold peace, and lead global change," Listyo said.
