Flydubai flight to Tel Aviv veers off course, lands in Saudi Arabia after hijacking scare
A suspected security incident was reported aboard a Flydubai aircraft en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv on Wednesday morning.
The flight turned around over Jordan and is currently over Saudi Arabian airspace, Flightradar24 data shows.
The aircraft activated an emergency code linked with attempted hijackings and transmitted a distress signal, Army Radio reported.
The incident is still ongoing and has not concluded, a security official told Walla. Efforts are underway to determine what is happening inside the aircraft, they added.
The aircraft is due to land in Saudi Arabia, but it is impossible to know with 100% certainty what happened until it does, an aviation authority official added.
The Israel Air Force raised its alert level and scrambled fighter jets in case of a possible emergency, Walla learned.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has convened a security meeting with defense officials, The Jerusalem Post learned.
