It was a spirited showing from India, which was undone by some poor goalkeeping from Gurpreet Singh. The Indian captain was positioned well to stop both Estevao’s and Pedro’s shots, but the sheer power of the strikes seemed to be too much for the custodian.
India held its shape well in the opening 25 minutes but still lacked conviction going forward, with the Brazilian goalkeeper Pedro Morisco being a mere spectator for most of the first half.
Both sides will make changes for the second half, and Jamil will hope that regardless of the scoreline, his players can walk off the field after making their renowned opponent work hard.
