Trump claims US Greenland security deal, China reportedly among adversaries being kept out

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that the United States had reached an agreement with Denmark and Greenland giving Washington permanent authority over security on the Arctic island and requiring American approval for military activity or sensitive investment by US adversaries.

In a Truth Social post, Trump described the arrangement as giving the US “permanent control over security, and all other needs” in Greenland. He said no US adversary could establish a base, maintain a military presence, or make sensitive investments there without Washington’s express written approval.

The US would immediately begin developing a large military presence on the island, Trump said, adding that Washington would work with Greenlanders on its development and construction. He said the agreement had no end date and would come at no cost to US taxpayers.

Fox News Digital reported that the restrictions cover China and Russia, citing a senior US official. The official said the deal grants the US permanent access, basing and overflight rights and allows it to establish additional military installations.
