Kwara, Doma drop points in home draws

Translate

Four clubs shared the spoils on Saturday as Kwara United and Abia Warriors drew 1-1 in Ilorin, while Doma United and Kun Khalifat produced the same scoreline in Gombe, in matchday nine of the Nigeria Premier Football League.

At the Kwara State Stadium, the hosts went ahead in the 38th minute through Abdullahi Ferinyaro, who put them in front at the break.

Abia Warriors came out strongly after the restart and levelled five minutes later, with Emmanuel Nnaji scoring in the 50th minute. Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, but neither could find a decisive goal.

Kwara United had lost 2-0 to Ikorodu City last weekend and were looking to return to winning ways, but they have now gone six meetings without beating Abia Warriors.

The point leaves them 11th with 11 points. The visitors had held unbeaten Rivers United to a goalless draw a week earlier, and they sit 15th with 10 points after drawing four of their nine matches.

At the Pantami Stadium, Doma United had to recover from a second-half deficit.

The match was goalless at half-time, but Kun Khalifat took the lead in the 55th minute. The hosts responded three minutes later through Tijani Azeez, who restored parity in the 58th minute, and neither side could find a winning goal.

Doma United began the day fifth with 13 points from eight matches, having won four, drawn one and lost three after a 2-0 defeat to Nasarawa United last weekend. The draw takes them to 14 points and fourth place, but they still have ground to make up in their pursuit of the leading sides.

Kun Khalifat were 18th on eight points from eight games, with two wins, two draws and four defeats. They moved to nine points and 17th, and they continue to fight to move away from the lower end of the standings.
