Anti-dynasty movement to launch in CDO on Wednesday

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — A nationwide campaign seeking to enact an anti-political dynasty law through a People’s Initiative (PI) will roll out its Northern Mindanao leg on Wednesday, uniting various sectors to demand equal access to public service.

The Dapat Isa Lang (D1L) Movement is set to hold its Region 10 launch and gathering tomorrow, from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Berchman’s Room of the Magis Canteen inside the Xavier University main campus here.

The gathering will bring together representatives from the academe, civil society, faith-based organizations, youth and student groups, and professional and people’s organizations, said Nestor Banuag Jr., director of Xavier University’s Social Involvement and Advocacy Program.

“As someone from Cagayan de Oro, I see this as an opportunity to bring an important national conversation closer to our communities in Northern Mindanao. Our role is not to tell people what to think, but to create a space where they can learn, ask questions, and make informed choices as citizens,” Banuag told the Inquirer on Tuesday.

The local assembly will run simultaneously with the movement’s national public launch in Manila.

Organized as a nonpartisan initiative, the campaign focuses on citizen participation, public accountability, and the constitutional principle of equal access to opportunities for public service.

Banuag noted that the program will include a brief introduction to the D1L movement, the proposed anti-political dynasty law, and the actual mechanics of the People’s Initiative process.
