After 25 years, it's The Mummy of all returns for Rachel Weisz who stars as a librarian turned action hero

She starred in one of Hollywood’s most popular action adventures 27 years ago and was catapulted to global stardom.

Now, at the age of 56, Rachel Weisz is reprising her role as librarian-turned-action heroine Evelyn O’Connell for the latest sequel to the 1999 hit movie The Mummy.

And despite more than a quarter of a century going by since the actress made her debut in the film franchise, she looks just as glamorous as she did then.

Ms Weisz, who is married to former 007 actor Daniel Craig, was spotted filming scenes for the movie in London last week, wearing a yellow polka-dot skirt, brown cropped jacket and matching wide-brimmed hat.

In scenes recorded outside the British Museum, the star stayed true to Evelyn’s period style, clutching a vintage leather briefcase while holding an old-fashioned transistor radio up to her face as her character appeared to make her way to work as a librarian and Egyptologist.

It is understood the scenes will appear early on in the movie, which has yet to be named.

The pictures offer the first look at Weisz back in character as Evelyn, as the hugely popular franchise is resurrected for a new generation

London-born Ms Weisz has been reunited with her American co-star and on-screen husband Brendan Fraser more than two decades after the pair last appeared together, in The Mummy Returns, in 2001.

When she filmed the first and second films in the series, she had yet to become a mummy herself, but in 2006 she gave birth to her son Henry, from her relationship with US film-maker Darren Aronofsky.

Ms Weisz later married Daniel Craig in a private ceremony and she gave birth to their daughter Grace in 2018, when she was 48 and Craig was 50.

Now the Mummy series has been resurrected for a new generation.

Mr Fraser has described his return to the role of the adventurer and treasure hunter Rick O’Connell as ‘like being reconnected with an old friend’.
