A young eagle was rescued by a family from a house garden in Baguio City last Saturday.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, the Baguio City Public Information Office (PIO) said the eaglet was found at around 10:00 a.m. on October 3 at a garden in Purok Bubon, Loakan Proper.

“Leticia Amoguis said her husband, Ed, found the bird at around 10 a.m. in the garden of a house their family was renting. Recognizing it as a protected endemic wildlife species, the family immediately called Baguio 911 and, upon advice, contacted the Baguio City Police Station 4,” the PIO said.

The bird was immediately turned over to authorities for proper assessment, care, and rehabilitation.

“BCPO personnel proceeded to the residence of William Guidangen and took custody of the displaced bird for proper turnover to the concerned authorities,” it added.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong commended the family for rescuing the eaglet and the authorities for their prompt response, ensuring the bird's safety.

The local government reminded the public to avoid handling, keeping, or attempting to care for wildlife on their own.

The public is likewise urged to report any sightings of injured, stranded, or displaced wild animals to the appropriate authorities for proper assistance.
