The Department of Energy (DOE) on Wednesday said that there will be a price freeze for household liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and kerosene products in Guinayangan, Quezon, after it was placed under a state of calamity due to El Niño.
In an advisory, the DOE said the price freeze will cover household LPGs in cylinders weighing 11 kilograms and below.
“A State of Calamity (SOC) was raised in Guinayangan, Quezon due to the continuing adverse effects of the El Niño Phenomenon and the persisting water shortage,” the advisory read.
“Thus, a price freeze for household Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in cylinders (11 Kg and below) and kerosene products is now in effect and will remain valid for 15 days upon the declaration of the SOC,” it added.
The price freeze will take effect from November 1 to 15, the advisory read.
Under the Price Act, prices of basic necessities in areas under a state of calamity shall “automatically be frozen at their prevailing prices or placed under automatic control.”
The DOE said the maximum price allowed for goods during the price freeze is set to the price immediately before the state of calamity was officially declared.
"During the price freeze, price implemented is that used before the implementation of the State of Calamity (SOC),” the DOE sad.
“Any rollback of prices, however, shall be implemented while price increases are strictly prohibited within the 15-day period from the day of SOC implementation," it added. —AOL, GMA News
