SINGAPORE, Nov 1 — A man was sentenced to two weeks’ jail after he forcefully dragged a woman into the lift of a HDB block and tried to stop her from leaving.

Malaysian national Wang Qingxiang (transliteration), 24, pleaded guilty in court on October 29 to a charge of attempting to wrongfully confine a person, reported Shin Min Daily News.

The incident occurred at a HDB block in Ubi on the evening of September 21.

Court documents reportedly state that Wang had met the victim near Ubi MRT station to introduce a job opportunity.

The pair discussed this opportunity as they walked to Wang’s block.

At about 11.25pm, the man invited the woman to his home to continue the discussion.

The woman declined and tried to leave, but Wang prevented her from doing so by grabbing her arm and body. She screamed for help.

When the doors of the nearby lift opened, Wang dragged the woman inside and held onto her while pressing the lift button to close the doors, according to Shin Min.

Just as the doors were about to shut, the victim reportedly broke free and escaped.

She lodged a police report, stating that the incident induced feelings of panic and fear. She reportedly worried Wang was trying to rape her.

Wang was arrested on September 22 and remained in remand since then.

In court, the prosecution said the victim had escaped by chance, and would have otherwise been trapped alone with Wang in the small enclosed lift. — AsiaOne
