Most-played games range from Clair Obscur to Civ to Elden Ring to Halo 2 and beyond.

Although Larian Studios has officially moved on from Baldur's Gate 3, the beloved RPG is showing no signs of slowing down. After years of major updates, new features, and improvements to the original experience, the studio has shifted its attention toward a new Divinity game, leaving the fate of Baldur's Gate in the hands of Wizards of the Coast. Fortunately, the game's passionate modding community has ensured that there's still plenty to look forward to.

Since launch, modders have introduced countless additions to Baldur's Gate 3, ranging from new character classes and customization options to entirely new gameplay experiences. However, some of the most ambitious projects go far beyond minor adjustments, offering the kind of substantial new content that fans might otherwise expect from an official expansion.

Now, one particularly exciting project has arrived titled Forsaken, introducing an entirely new campaign and region to explore based on the World of Warcraft, and it's available to download right now.

One of the most ambitious recent additions to Baldur's Gate 3 is the new Forsaken mod, a free, fan-made campaign that brings the universe of World of Warcraft into Larian's acclaimed RPG. Created by modder SquallyDaBeanz, the project draws inspiration from Tirisfal Glades, the iconic Undead starting zone from World of Warcraft Classic. An early teaser first appeared in 2025, but the creator has now released the significantly expanded first act, introducing an entirely new region and adventure for PC players.

The story takes place independently of Baldur's Gate 3's main campaign. Players assume the role of one of the Forsaken, an Undead who has broken free from the Lich King's control and must find their place in the world. Their adventure follows the struggle to reclaim the fallen kingdom of Lordaeron, sending them through dangerous dungeons, forgotten ruins, and new settlements as they hunt monsters, confront enemies, and uncover dark rituals.

Despite being an unofficial project, the scope is impressive. Act 1 includes more than 20 new quests, over 30 combat encounters, and 60 handcrafted NPCs and traders. There are also new creatures, weapons, magical items, puzzles, and even hidden secrets, alongside original dialogue and cutscenes. Class-specific conversations and skill checks appear throughout the campaign, preserving some of the roleplaying flexibility that made Baldur's Gate 3 so popular.

Players can also recruit three companions at Deathknell Chapel: Darnell, a Fighter; Isabella, a Sorcerer; and Duesten, a Cleric. These companions are currently more focused on combat than storytelling, although the creator plans to expand them in future updates. It's also worth noting that Forsaken is more combat and exploration-focused as opposed to the branching-narrative elements of the original game. The campaign is designed for characters between levels 1 and 5, with encounters balanced for experienced players.

For anyone interested, Forsaken - Custom Campaign - Act 1 is available to download for free through Nexus Mods. After installing and enabling the mod through the game's Mod Manager, players can start a new game to begin their adventure. Multiplayer is supported, provided everyone has the same files installed.

Unfortunately, the creator has confirmed that a console release isn't possible, meaning this experience is exclusive to PC. Further, Act 2 is in development, although there's currently no release window, so the campaign is limited to Act 1 for the time being. Even in its current form, Forsaken is an impressive example of how much life the Baldur's Gate 3 community continues to breathe into the RPG.
