Filmmaker Nag Ashwin recently had a special fan moment when he met Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso. The ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ director, who has often spoken about his interest in motorsports and high-performance vehicles, met the Spanish racing star ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix weekend.

Nag Ashwin first shared a video from the practice session on September 11, featuring Alonso, who races for Aston Martin. Sharing the footage on his Instagram Stories, the filmmaker expressed his admiration for the two-time Formula 1 World Drivers’ Champion.“I’ve really only been a fan of this guy…for the longest time… ‘Un ano mas’.. for sure.., one more year,” he wrote.

Nag Ashwin shows Alonso a 20-year-old paper cutting

The filmmaker later shared a glimpse of his meeting with Alonso, revealing that he had preserved a newspaper paper cutting featuring the Formula 1 star for nearly two decades.

“Extremely blessed to have met him (thanks to Mr Kiran) and showed him my paper cutting of him from 20 years ago…” Nag Ashwin wrote.In the video, Nag Ashwin can be seen showing the old paper cutting to Alonso before posing with the driver. He also shared a picture of the autograph Alonso gave him, with the F1 star signing beside the decades-old clipping.

Nag Ashwin’s love for cars and motorsports

Nag Ashwin’s interest in cars and motorsports has also found its way into his filmmaking.

During the promotions of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, he introduced Bujji, the futuristic vehicle created for the film, which quickly became one of the major attractions of the promotional campaign. The vehicle was also tested by former Indian Formula 1 driver Narain Karthikeyan, further highlighting the filmmaker’s connection with the world of motorsports.

Nag Ashwin is working on ‘Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2’

Nag Ashwin rose to global prominence with ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas and Deepika Padukone in key roles. The sci-fi epic went on to cross the Rs 1,000 crore mark worldwide.

The filmmaker is now working on the highly anticipated sequel, ‘Kalki 2898 AD: Part 2’, which is currently in production.

Fernando Alonso’s F1 future

Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso remains one of the most accomplished drivers on the Formula 1 grid. The Spaniard is a two-time World Drivers’ Champion and currently races for Aston Martin. His current contract runs until the end of the season, while his plans beyond that remain a subject of interest in the Formula 1 paddock.
