Magnitude 5 quake jolts Occidental Mindoro

A magnitude 5.0 earthquake struck Occidental Mindoro on Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The earthquake occurred at 9:34 a.m. at a depth of 10 kilometers. Its epicenter was located 23 kilometers from Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.
PHIVOLCS recorded the following instrumental intensities:
- Intensity IV – Mamburao and Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro
- Intensity III – Abra de Ilog and Looc, Occidental Mindoro; Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro
- Intensity I – San Jose, Magsaysay and Calintaan, Occidental Mindoro; Victoria and Pinamalayan, Oriental Mindoro
Mamburao Mayor Glicerio “E-K” Almero III said classes at all levels in the municipality have been cancelled upon the recommendation of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).
“We are expecting aftershocks at tapusin po muna natin ang inspeksyon sa ating mga paaralan,” the mayor said.
