Overcast skies, rains to prevail over PH due to LPA

Translate

MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) off Palawan is forecast to continue bringing rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao until Friday, Sept. 18, the state weather bureau said.

In its weather advisory issued at 4 p.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that gloomy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms may prevail over the following areas:

  • Visayas
  • Mimaropa
  • Batangas
  • Quezon
  • Bicol Region
  • Zamboanga Peninsula
  • Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao
  • Northern Mindanao

This is because of the LPA located 160 kilometers (km) east of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan or 130 km southwest of Cuyo, Palawan inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), Pagasa said.

The weather disturbance remains unlikely to develop into a Tropical Depression within the next 24 hours, it added.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the localized thunderstorms.

A severe Tropical Storm, internationally named Dujuan, is also being monitored outside the PAR located 2,910 km east of extreme Northern Luzon.

It packs maximum sustained winds of 95 km per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 115 km per hour, according to Pagasa.

Pagasa weather specialist John Manalo assured that Dujuan will not enter the PAR. Although it may come closer as it moves northwestward in the coming days, he said.

“Ibig sabihin dahil sa northern movement nito, ay hindi na po natin nakikita na papasok pa ito ng Philippine area of responsibility. Pero, lalapit pa rin po ito eventually sa mga susunod na araw kapag ito ay kumilos na pa northwestward,” he explained during Pagasa’s 5 p.m. weather advisory.
