Boston College scores on bizarre 'Ring-Around-The-Rosie' homage to 'The Longest Yard'

Translate

The 1974 Burt Reynolds classic "The Longest Yard" introduced the Mean Machine to the masses, and on Saturday the Boston College Eagles stunned the college football world by dusting off their signature play.

The Eagles welcomed the Florida State Seminoles to town, with FSU interim head coach Rick Stockstill leading the team.

In the third quarter, the Seminoles were up 21-17, but the Eagles were on the doorstep. On second and goal, they dropped the film's famous "Ring-Around-The-Rosie" huddle before lining up their offensive lineman at the bottom of the field.

Talk about the element of surprise.

Once you finally get past the spinning, you're faced with players lining up all over the place.

Then, to add to the confusion, you've got a beauty of a play fake that seemed to even fool the cameraman for a second.

And, if you needed anything else, QB Mason McKenzie decided to dish the ball off to Javarius Green underhand for six.

There's no way FSU's defense was prepared for any of that.

Sure, the play probably could have worked without the spinning, but that was likely the first thing that left the Seminoles’ defense wondering what on Earth was happening.

The only problem was that the Eagles probably could've used a few more plays as effective as that one.

They gave up ten points in the fourth quarter to lose this one to the Seminoles by a score of 31-24.
