Disney+ has become an entertainment hub, and its sci-fi catalog feels almost endless. The streaming giant has grown after suffering multi-billion-dollar losses; Disney+ now reportedly has 135 million global subscribers. Titles such as Toy Story 5 are reaching 20 million views globally in just five days. With so many titles, one has stood out.

Toy Story 5 is still dominating the streaming charts on Disney+ after its billion-dollar box office success. However, one movie that was viewed as a weak performance from such a big and well-established franchise has found redemption thanks to streaming. After a month of streaming, Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu is currently ranking number on Disney+'s most-watched movies, and is also trending in the top 10. The sci-fi movie reached number nine on the charts in the U.S., and is rated highly globally.

The Mandalorian And Grogu Reached New Heights On Streaming

The Mandalorian and Grogu grossed $345 million at the global box office and was seemingly a disappointing run for such a beloved franchise such as Star Wars. The movie follows the legendary Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin (played by Pedro Pascal) and his young apprentice Grogu. The Mandalorian made history as the very first live-action Star Wars TV series released in 2019 and developed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. The series was credited with revitalizing the franchise and making Star Wars into a more accessible media empire.

Despite the unfortunate box office run, streaming has brought new life to the movie, as The Mandalorian and Grogu still stands strong on the global streaming charts even one month after its release on Disney+. Pascal reprised his role in the new movie and starred alongside Martin Scorsese, Sigourney Weaver, and Jeremy Allen White, with Jon Favreau directing the space adventure.

Audiences & Critics Still Love The Mandalorian

Question 1 of 3

Not only is The Mandalorian and Grogu dominating Disney+, but critics and audiences agree that the movie is worth watching. On Rotten Tomatoes, critics gave the Star Wars movie a 60% rating based on 333 reviews.

Reviews stated that "If The Mandalorian is your thing, this is a fun adventure with two characters you already love, backed by one of the strongest problems of the year. The problem isn’t the movie, it was asking it to be more than it ever needed to be," and "It ends up feeling more like an overly drawn-out filler episode of the series—or, failing that, a season condensed into a couple of hours, during which there isn't even enough time to properly introduce the new characters."

Audiences were far more interested in the adventures between Mandalorian and Grogu, with an 86% rating. Audiences stated that the movie "was fine. Worth watching, but not great," and "As everyone has said, this could have gone to Disney+. Sure, the bigger budget made it look better, but this wasn't a theater-worthy installment of The Mandalorian."

The Mandalorian and Grogu is available to stream on Disney+ now.
