2027: Nasarawa PDP pledges loyalty to Wike’s coalition

The Nasarawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has pledged its loyalty to the Rainbow Coalition, a political ideology formed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general election.

The party’s governorship candidate in the state, Dr David Ombugadu, stated this on Saturday in Lafia, the state capital, during his official campaign flag-off, which was attended by stakeholders and supporters of the party from across the 13 Local Government Areas of the state.

Our correspondent reports that the campaign flag-off was held at the party’s premises in Lafia.

Ombugadu affirmed that members of the state’s PDP chapter had accepted the Rainbow Coalition and will cast their votes in line with Wike’s direction.

He said, “We want to affirm today that the entire Nasarawa State stands for the Rainbow Coalition. We are all united in support of our national leader, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike. We are waiting for our national leader to give us direction. Wherever he goes, we will go.”

The governorship candidate asked stakeholders from Abuja present at the event to extend the warm regards of the Nasarawa people to Wike, whom he described as a “capacity national leader.”

“Please take our warm regards to him. The people of Nasarawa State are eagerly waiting for him to pay a visit to Nasarawa State. We love him, we believe in his vision, we believe in his charisma, we believe in his capacity,” Ombugadu said.

He said if given the mandate, his administration would prioritise security and innovation, and run an inclusive government.

Ombugadu said Nasarawa is blessed with solid minerals including gold, lithium and wolframite, but the people had yet to benefit from the vast resources.

“We have gold in the ground. No one should tell us poverty is affecting us. Our gold was only given to a few people. But through my leadership, we will make sure that your children will not go to the hospital and suffer,” he said.

He promised improved healthcare for pregnant women, security for farmers and a government where everybody matters.

“We will sit down; what we will do is what you want. Not what a single person wants. We will all sit down and look at what you need in your locality. What are your needs? What is your contribution?” he added.

He thanked the people of the state for their commitment and urged them to protect their votes to ensure a government that will represent the people.

Speaking at the event, the party’s National Deputy Chairman, Yusuf Agirikwe, said the party has the mandate of the people to rule the state in 2027.

“We have been hearing from afar that Nasarawa State is PDP. I have come to establish it myself today that PDP has the mandate of the people to rule them in this state,” he said.

He said the victory can only be actualised if supporters vote and defend their votes, as he charged the supporters to mobilise for the party.

“From today, go and tell your friends that PDP is the winning party. Go out and bring your votes,” he added.
