Penang governor extends condolences over passing of Idrus Ibrahim

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Ramli Ngah Talib has expressed his condolences to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his family over the passing of the Prime Minister's elder brother, Idrus Ibrahim.

In a statement uploaded to his official social media accounts today, Tun Ramli said he received the news with profound sorrow, recalling his visit to the late Idrus last year which, although brief, left a lasting impression.

"Al-Fatihah. He was a person of good character and gentle in speech," he said.

Tun Ramli and his wife, Toh Puan Raja Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah, also expressed their deepest sympathy to Anwar and his family, while praying that Allah would accept Idrus' good deeds, broaden and illuminate his grave, and place his soul among the faithful and righteous.

Meanwhile, Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong said Idrus was not merely a teacher and headmaster to him, but an educator who was strict, disciplined and principled while always caring for his students.

Sim, who is also Bukit Mertajam member of parliament, said he deeply appreciated all the advice and guidance the late Idrus gave him from when he first became an MP up until he joined the cabinet.

"I will always remember my teacher's contributions," he said in a social media post today.
