Bali prosecutors seek 5-year terms for 2 Indians over online gambling

Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) - Bali prosecutors have sought five-year prison terms for two Indian nationals accused of masterminding an international online gambling network, while seeking four years for 33 other defendants.

Public prosecutor Ni Made N. Lumisensi told the Denpasar District Court on Tuesday that Piyush Sharma and Yash Raj Singh Gaur were legally and convincingly proven guilty.

She asked the panel to sentence Sharma and Gaur to five years in prison, with time already spent in detention deducted from their sentences.

The charges meet elements of Article 426(1)(a) of Indonesia's 2023 Criminal Code, in conjunction with the 2025 law on criminal penalties, prosecutors said.

For the other 33 defendants, prosecutors sought four-year prison terms each, also with time already spent in detention deducted from their sentences.

Prosecutors also asked the court to deport all defendants, who are foreign nationals, after they complete their prison terms, in accordance with Indonesian law.

The case involves 35 Indian nationals accused of operating an international online gambling network from two locations in Bali.

The indictment identified Sharma as the network's operational coordinator, responsible for equipment and connectivity, including laptops, mobile phones and internet access, and for assigning tasks to operators.

Gaur allegedly served as an administrator and promoted the gambling sites through the Instagram account @ekdant_book, according to the indictment.

Prosecutors said the network allegedly operated at least seven gambling sites: rambetexchange.com, CBA, LOIN, zetto.io, club4.com, winmoney365exch.com and ekdant.casino.
