Palawan gov’t gives aid to M/V June Aster fire survivors in Coron

CALAPAN CITY — Palawan Gov. Amy Roa Alvarez personally delivered financial assistance to survivors and families affected by the M/V June Aster fire in Coron town on Saturday, Sept. 12, as provincial officials continued to provide support to those affected by the tragedy, according to the provincial information office.

Twelve Palawan residents who survived the incident each received P10,000 in financial assistance from the provincial government.

The family of one person who remains missing also received P3,000 in immediate assistance, according to the provincial government.

Alvarez visited survivors staying at the Regional Evacuation Center and those confined at the Coron District Hospital to check on their conditions and to determine their immediate needs.

She was accompanied by Board Member Anton Alvarez, Executive Assistant Carlo A. Buitizon, social workers from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), and personnel of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

The provincial government also continued providing psychological first aid to survivors and families of those missing or who died in the incident.

The intervention is being led by social workers from the PSWDO, Department of Social Welfare and Development, and the local government. /das
