SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur — A total of 28 firearms were surrendered to various police units across Caraga (Region 13), as authorities ramped up operations against unregistered weapons.

Brig. Gen. Rolindo Suguilon, Police Regional Office 13 (PRO 13) director, reported that 21 loose guns were voluntarily surrendered, while seven others with expired licenses were turned in during house-to-house visitations last Monday.

Of the 21 surrendered firearms, 10 were received by the Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (PPO), seven by the Surigao del Sur PPO, three by the Butuan City Police Office, and one by the Agusan del Norte PPO.

“The positive response in this campaign is attributed to the hard work and commitment of the men and women of PNP Caraga, especially those assigned in the field, and the support and collaboration of barangay officials and the community,” Suguilon said in a statement.

“This intensified campaign aims to ensure that no loose firearm will be used in any criminal activity,” he added.

Suguilon noted that the latest haul bolsters the regional command’s crackdown under Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

This law penalizes the unauthorized possession, manufacture and acquisition of firearms and ammunition. /apl
