American ‘Ludwig’ Adaptation Nabs ABC Pilot Order

Translate

ABC is investigating an American adaptation of the BBC hit Ludwig.

The network has ordered a pilot for a U.S.-based remake of the show, under the title Rabbit. It comes from writers Megan Ganz and Humphrey Ker (Mythic Quest) and 20th Television. Ludwig creator Mark Brotherhood, star David Mitchell and executive producer Kenton Allen of Big Talk Studios are exec producers on the pilot, along with Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz (The Old Man, Percy Jackson and the Olympians). Ganz and Steinberg and Shotz have overall deals at 20th TV.

Rabbit will center on a reclusive puzzle maker named Mark, aka “Rabbit.” “After his homicide detective twin brother goes missing,” the show’s logline reads, “Mark is pulled from his solitary life and thrust into the Cambridge, Massachusetts, police department, where he poses as his brother to investigate his mysterious disappearance. But soon, Mark discovers that his uncanny ability to solve impossible puzzles makes him an unlikely crime-solving sensation.” Ludwig, incidentally, is set in Cambridge, England.

Ludwig debuted on the BBC in 2024 and became a breakout hit, drawing 9.5 million viewers in its first month. It was the broadcaster’s biggest new scripted series that year. Season two, which premiered in August, has put up strong ratings numbers as well. The show was also well-received by critics and won the best comedy series award at the International Emmys in 2025, among other accolades. Ludwig streams on BritBox in the United States.

Ganz, Steinberg, Shotz and Allen are all repped by WME. Ker is repped by 42.
