Translate

Helen Zille has surprised South Africans with her daring stint as a drag racing driver. The 75-year-old Johannesburg mayoral candidate for the Democratic Alliance has repeatedly shut down criticism about her age.

HELEN ZILLE GOES DRAG RACING!

On her social media platforms, Helen Zille’s latest stunt as Jozi mayoral candidate proved that she is not slowing down, despite her age.

The 75-year-old took the wheel – as a drag racing driver – spinning the tracks as part of her campaign trail.

In various video clips, Helen and her passenger were seen performing daring stunts.

She shared: “Yes, the rumours are true. I spun over the weekend.  And on 4 November, I’m spinning Joburg in a new direction! Vote DA on BOTH BALLOTS to get this city working for all!

A few days later, Helen Zille turned up at a DA campaign rally in a BMW 325is, affectionately nicknamed the “Gusheshe”

SNORKELLING TO DJING TOO

Since announcing that she would run for Johannesburg mayor a year ago, Helen Zille has pulled out all the stops to sway public support.

From snorkelling in a water-filled pothole, canoeing in a road flooded by a faulty stormwater drain, ziplining over a sinkhole, and even DJing at a Fourways nightclub, the 75-year-old has proved to be a real daredevil

“How can a 74-year-old be a mayoral candidate? Isn’t she too old? The answer is no”, Helen told the Sowetan last year.

She added, “They [the new generation] must compete with me.”
