Cape Town hands over homes to beneficiaries in Atlantis

Translate

The City of Cape Town has handed over 60 more homes to qualifying beneficiaries of the Kanonkop Phase 2 housing project in Atlantis.

Over the course of two days, the City’s Human Settlement Directorate bestowed 67 keys to the new homeowners and their families in the Western Cape town.

NEW HOUSING, NEW HOPE

According to the City, they handed over homes to 46 qualifying beneficiaries today, 22 October, and an additional 21 units yesterday (21 October). This makes a total of 67 homes.

Carl Pophaim, Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, said of the occasion:

Receiving a home is a significant milestone for any family. It provides a foundation for stability, dignity and the opportunity to build a better future. We are pleased to celebrate this important moment with the beneficiaries of Kanonkop Phase 2.

Pophaim continued:

Over the coming months, we will continue handing over homes to the approved beneficiaries. A total of 422 Breaking New Ground (BNG) homes will be constructed here and handed over to qualifying beneficiaries.

CHOOSING BENEFICIARIES

The City of Cape selects beneficiaries in accordance with the Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register. By doing so, it prevents queue-jumping and benefits those who qualify for housing, in line with South African legislation.

Housing opportunities include City-owned rental accommodation, social housing (rental), affordable housing, and state-subsidised BNG houses, as seen in Atlantis.

If you want to register and become a qualifying beneficiary, take note of the following criteria:

  • You need to be a South African citizen or permanent resident.
  • Be over the age of 18.
  • Be legally competent to enter into a contract.
  • Be married, co-habiting or have dependents (however, this does not apply to applicants over the age of 60 or those with disabilities).
  • Have a combined household income of less than R3 500 per month to qualify for BNG housing.
  • Never have owned a property.
  • Never have benefitted from a government housing subsidy before.

You can register online or at your nearest City housing office.

As a qualifying beneficiary, you will not be charged to register on the Housing Needs Register or to receive a housing allocation. If you are asked to make a payment for placements or related services, then you are advised to contact the City’s fraud hotline on 0800 32 31 30.

In related news, the City of Cape Town handed over homes to qualifying beneficiaries of the Gugulethu Infill housing project.
