ACT police investigate after man found dead during welfare check

Homicide detectives are calling for witnesses as they investigate a suspicious death in Canberra's north.

The body of a 70-year-old man was discovered inside a home on Hanson Place in Watson during a welfare check.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity around the area in recent days to come forward.

Police are investigating the "suspicious death" of a 70-year-old Canberra man, after his body was discovered during a welfare check.

Around 7:55am on Monday officers were called to a home in Watson, in Canberra's north, to check on a resident's welfare.

A short time later the 70-year-old man's body was found inside the home on Hanson Place, a very small street close to the Watson shops.

ACT Policing declared the house a crime scene, and called in the homicide squad to investigate.

Following those enquires, police are treating the man's death as suspicious.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in or around Hanson Place in Watson in the days before the man's body was discovered to come forward.

ACT Policing is also calling for anybody with dash-cam or CCTV footage of the immediate area to contact Crime Stoppers.
