Emma Corrin, Jack Lowden and Olivia Colman Star in Trailer for Netflix’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Adaptation
Elizabeth Bennett and Mr. Darcy are back in the official trailer for Netflix’s upcoming Pride and Prejudice adaptation. Based on the classic novel by Jane Austen, the limited-series stars Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden in the leading roles.
In the trailer, released Wednesday, the classic romance tale takes new life. “One day Jane, I shall be either a governance and a spinster or a wife and a mother,” Corrin’s Elizabeth, or Lizzie, tells her sister Jane Bennett, played by Freya Mavor. “And then finally we may talk about something else.”
Olivia Colman joins the young women as their mother, Mrs. Bennett. Rufus Sewell plays Mr. Bennett; Hopey Parish plays Mary; Hollie Avery plays Kitty; Rhea Norwood plays Lydia. The six-part series is written and executive produced by Dolly Alderton, with Heartstopper‘s Euros Lyn serving as director.
“I got an email asking if I’d be interested in adapting Pride and Prejudice and my immediate response was, ‘I absolutely cannot do this. This is everyone’s favorite book. It’s too much responsibility,'” Alderton told Netflix’s Tudum. “I thought of all the things that could go wrong, and then I put that all in a box. Since then, I’ve just thought about the honor and the privilege of being entrusted with this story.”
Alderton’s take on Pride and Prejudice has been described as being faithful to Austen’s original novel. “Pride and Prejudice is such a timeless story because of the emotions in the book; they are as pertinent now as they were in 1812,” Alderton added. Austen‘s Sense and Sensibility novel was also reimagined for feature film and released earlier this month.
Laura Lankester, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter for are executive producing for Lookout Point, alongside Alderton, Lyn and Corrin. Lisa Osborne is producing.
Pride and Prejudice is set to drop on Netflix on Dec. 3. The Hollywood Reporter shares newly released images from the series and the trailer below.
