Murder probe launched after e-bike cyclist dies in West London crash with moped

A murder investigation has been launched after an e-bike cyclist was killed in a crash with a moped in West London.

Met Police officers were called to North Pole Road, Kensington, at about 1.20am on Friday after receiving reports of a man who had been found seriously injured.

The London Ambulance Service attended, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Detectives said inquiries are at an early stage as they seek to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Initial CCTV investigations indicate that at around 1am a man travelling on an e-bike was involved in a collision with a moped on North Pole Road. Officers believe the moped had been pursuing the e-bike before the crash.

Police are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision or the events leading up to it, including the alleged pursuit.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at what is a very difficult time.

“We have launched a full investigation and are working hard to get answers and establish exactly what happened. Our team are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry, including efforts to identify and trace the rider of the moped.”

He added: “As part of this, we’re urging anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the e-bike or the moped to get in touch with us as soon as possible. If you have any information that could help, please come forward.”

Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have captured footage of either vehicle in the moments before the incident.
