P300-M Balogo Port in Marinduque set to open in June 2027

CALAPAN CITY — Residents of the Marinduque towns of Santa Cruz and Torrijos will enjoy shorter, cheaper trips when the P300-million Balogo Port opens in June 2027, providing an alternative docking facility to Balanacan Port in Mogpog.
Marinduque lone district Rep. Reynaldo Salvacion said the new port would make sea travel more convenient by cutting the distance they would traverse to reach Balanacan Port, a key gateway connecting the island province to mainland Luzon, according to a report from the Philippine Information Agency in Marinduque.
Marinduque Gov. Melecio Go and MIMAROPA officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office inspected the project.

Construction began in the fourth quarter of 2023, with completion targeted for June 2027, DPWH Assistant Regional Director Richard Ragasa said
The port will have two ramps for roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) vessels. The port terminal will be constructed in the next phase.
Go said the facility provides vessels with another docking option and helps ease pressure on Balanacan Port, particularly along the Lucena-Marinduque route during peak travel periods.
Santa Cruz also has Buyabod Port, which currently serves motorized boats traveling between Buyabod and Maniwaya Island.
The DPWH said it chose Balogo as a docking site for larger vessels because of its water depth. The area also served as a docking site for ships by Marcopper Mining in the 1990s to transport chemicals./coa
