KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 — Bank Rakyat said today that a disruption to its corporate website was caused by a technical problem involving a third-party service provider, assuring customers that their deposits, personal information and banking services remained unaffected.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the bank said the disruption was confined to its corporate website, while its banking systems and operations continued to function normally.

It said efforts were under way to restore access, with customers able to continue conducting transactions through alternative digital channels.

“Customers can continue to carry out their banking transactions as usual through alternative channels, including the iRakyat website, iRakyat mobile application, BRICK, QR2E and i-bizRAKYAT,” the bank said.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and appreciate our customers’ patience. Further updates on the matter will be provided from time to time.

“The security and interests of our customers remain Bank Rakyat’s top priority.”

Separately, technology news portal Lowyat.NET reported that several Bank Rakyat banking webpages, including its iRakyat online banking login page, had been defaced in a suspected cyberattack late yesterday.

The bank has not confirmed a cyberattack, attributing the disruption instead to a technical issue involving a third-party service provider.

The clarification follows an earlier advisory issued at about 11.30pm yesterday, when Bank Rakyat informed customers that its corporate website was temporarily inaccessible, according to Bernama.

The bank advised customers to use alternative digital banking platforms but did not specify the cause of the disruption or indicate when access would be restored.
