The Land Transportation Office (LTO) Carigara District Office has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against a private vehicle driver in connection with an accident that occurred in Barangay Mudboron, Alangalang, Leyte on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.

Based on the investigation conducted by the Alangalang Municipal Police Station, both a private vehicle and a motorcycle with a sidecar were traveling along the national highway heading to Sta. Fe, Leyte when the driver of the private vehicle attempted to overtake.

However, he did not correctly estimate the distance and crashed into the rear of the motorcycle, resulting in injuries to the rider and damage to both vehicles.

The driver then allegedly abandoned the injured rider and attempted to flee to Sta. Fe, Leyte but was later intercepted by police officers from the Sta. Fe Municipal Police Station and brought to the Alangalang Municipal Police Station for proper documentation and processing.

The police report also mentioned the suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol based on his behavior and there also was the smell of alcohol.

In this regard, the LTO ordered the driver to appear before the Carigara District Office within five days from the receipt of the SCO to submit a sworn statement or explanation and corresponding original documents related to the incident.

Among the violations specified in the SCO is Reckless Driving in addition to other liabilities that may be determined as the investigation continues.

The driver's license will also be subject to a 90-day preventive suspension and he was ordered to immediately surrender it to the relevant LTO office.

The private vehicle has also been placed on alarm while the agency's investigation and corresponding process continue.

The LTO said, in a statement, continues to remind all motorists to be responsible and careful in every trip. In the event of an accident, it is important to deal with the incident, contact the authorities, and take responsibility for any violations committed. — BAP, GMA News
