Kaizer Chiefs are competing for top spot – Ox Mthethwa

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa believes Amakhosi are in the title race despite being eight points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

Although they have two games in hand, Chiefs have struggled for consistency. Against Polokwane City, the Glamour Boys appeared to have the game in the back but a late goal from Giovanni Philander saw both teams share the points.

Mthethwa, who has been one of the team’s best players this season, admitted that costly errors has seen them drop points.

“We made some costly mistakes in the last game, so this is a perfect chance for us to rectify that.”

We are competing for the first spot, so we can’t afford to drop points in two consecutive games,” Mthethwa said as per Sowetan.

Mthethwa has been solid for Chiefs

Amakhosi have lost 1-0 to Golden Arrows this season in the MTN8 quarter-finals. Mthethwa though says Chiefs will not go out ans seek revenge but will focus on getting three points.

“We’ve played against Arrows already this season, so our mindset has changed towards them.”

“We are not aiming for revenge, but we are going there to fight.

“We want to climb up the log standings, so we want nothing less than three points on Sunday,” the Amakhosi star added.

Mthethwa has formed a formidable midfield partnership with Sphesihle Ndlovu and the duo have not lost a game playing together for Chiefs in a legue match.

Fernando Da Cruz though could opt for a two man midfield as he looks to gain three points.
