Kimi Antonelli becomes youngest Formula 1 world champion at 20 years old

Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli celebrating after finishing third in the race and clinching the 2026 Formula One World Championship.

A tearful Kimi Antonelli became Formula One’s youngest world champion at 20 years and 68 days old on Nov 1 when he finished third for Mercedes in a red-flagged and restarted Mexico City Grand Prix won by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

The first Italian champion since 1953 sobbed with joy over the team radio as he took the chequered flag at the high-altitude Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, with his overall lead now an unassailable 119 points.

The previous youngest champion was Germany’s Sebastian Vettel, who took the first of his four with Red Bull at 23 years and 134 days in 2010.

Taking our time

It’s hard to hold a candle in weather like this – but we’re laying the morning’s prospects on the line anyway.

With the onset of the inter-monsoon, Singapore is welcoming in the November Rain. Thundery showers are expected over the south, west and central areas of the island, with temperatures in the range of 25 to 34 deg C.

Thankfully, too, nothin’ lasts forever, and this includes the haze. The PSI forecast is in the “good to moderate range”, with the hourly PM2.5 readings in the “normal” band as at 7am.

Walkin’ out the door today? Never mind the incoming dark skies – we still can find a way to navigate the morning rush, with trains running as planned. Motorists should be mindful of obstacles on some expressways – including the AYE, SLE and BKE.
