Former Tottenham star set for big move as 'deal agreed'

The Mali international, who is a free agent after his Spurs contract expired in the summer, has agreed a one-year deal with the Eredivisie giants, according to Dutch outlet Telegraaf.

The player is already believed to be in Amsterdam to undergo a medical.

Now 30, Bissouma joined Spurs from Brighton and Hove Albion in a big-money move in the summer of 2022 but never really hit the heights in north London, falling out of favour with several managers in north London.

While making 111 appearances for the club, many of the headlines he generated came off the field of play.

He was suspended by Tottenham in 2024 after featuring in a video which appeared to show him inhaling laughing gas.

Then, last season, was dropped by then-manager Thomas Frank after turning up persistently late for training. He played only 11 times as Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League for the second season in a row.

Bissouma will hope a move to the Netherlands will help revive his career.

A former captain of his national team, Bissouma was recently left out of Mali’s squad for their forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Cape Verde and Liberia. He would have missed the former game any way, due to suspension.

Best known for playing a defensive-midfield role, Bissouma broke through at French club Lille before moving to the Premier League in 2018 when he joined Brighton but, after eight years, his time in England now appears to be over.
