Translate

Police officers have saved a 22-year-old man from drowning when he jumped into the River Torrens to evade them.

A group of men were fighting on Hindley Street in the Adelaide CBD about 5am on Saturday when one of them ran off after patrols arrived.

Officers lost sight of the 22-year-old after a brief chase but he was later spotted on police-monitored cameras leaping into the river.

Police arrived to find the man struggling in the water and calling for help.

Three officers jumped in to save the drowning man, holding him above water before other patrols pulled the group to safety.

The Blair Athol man was taken to hospital in a non-life-threatening condition.
