SITIAWAN, Oct 31 — Police have crippled a syndicate believed to be involved in stealing four-wheel-drive vehicles in Perak and Kuala Lumpur with the arrest of three people in Kampung Koh here on Tuesday.

Manjung district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hasbullah Abd Rahman said the arrests were made following information and intelligence gathered after a report on the theft of a Toyota Hilux in Taman Mas 2, Sitiawan, on Oct 26.

He said the Manjung district police headquarters received the report at about 10.06am that day.

“Following the report, a team from the Manjung district police headquarters arrested a man and two women suspected of being involved in the incident on Oct 27 at about 5.30pm.

“Police also seized a car key reader believed to have been used to steal vehicles, as well as several other items,” he said in a statement today, Sinar Harian reported.

Hasbullah said questioning revealed the suspects had admitted to being involved in eight vehicle thefts using the same modus operandi, targeting four-wheel-drive vehicles.

He said four of the cases were reported in Perak and the other four in Kuala Lumpur.

According to the report, the case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for motor vehicle theft, and all three suspects have been remanded for six days from Oct 28 to Nov 2.

Members of the public with information on the case are urged to come forward to the Manjung district police headquarters, contact its operations room at 05-688 6222, reach its WhatsApp hotline at 017-682 8005, or visit any nearby police station.
