Najib's RM50mil house arrest condition partly beyond his control, say lawyers [UPDATED]

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Najib Razak's ability to meet the RM50 million payment condition set for his house arrest depends partly on matters beyond his control, his lawyers said today.
His legal team Messrs Shafee & Co said a significant portion of Najib's assets, bank accounts, and properties remained subject to freezing orders and enforcement proceedings by the government.
"His ability to satisfy the condition therefore turns in part on matters that do not lie in his own hands," the law firm said in a statement.
The legal team said Najib was currently taking advice and considering his options on how best to fulfil the condition.
It added that Najib will remain in Kajang Prison while weighing his options.
