Lightning kills construction worker in Zamboanga del Sur

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur—A 51-year-old construction worker died on the spot after being struck by lightning while working at a dump in Labangan town in this province, Friday afternoon, Oct. 9.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) identified the victim as Dominador Labora, a resident of Purok Santan, Upper Pulacan, Labangan.

Initial investigation by the Labangan Municipal Police Station revealed that the incident occurred around 3 p.m. at Purok 7, Barangay Bokong, near the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Dam.

Labora was working alongside three co-workers at the site when sudden lightning struck him, causing severe fatal injuries.

MDRRMO Emergency Operations Center said the attending physician from the Labangan Rural Health Unit declared Labora dead at the scene.

The victim’s remains were later turned over to a funeral facility in Barangay Tuburan, Pagadian City. /apl
