Proposed P100-M Dinagat Islands sports complex gains traction

SAN FRANCISCO, Agusan del Sur — The construction of the proposed P100 million sports facility in Dinagat Islands province has gained traction as Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) chairman Patrick Gregorio led Monday the inspection of the proposed site.
Dinagat Islands Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr. and local officials welcomed Gregorio and accompanied him for the survey at the proposed sports complex site in Sitio Mahangin, Barangay Wilson in the capital town of San Jose.
Project blueprints detail a standard 400-meter, eight-lane all-weather rubberized synthetic track enclosing a central pitch designed for football and other field events.

Local officials envision the complex as a future venue for inter-school, provincial, and Caraga-wide athletic meets.
Beyond grassroots sports development, the provincial government expects the facility to spur sports tourism and stimulate micro and small businesses during tournaments.
Demerey noted that modern sports facilities could provide Dinagatnon youths with productive outlets, fostering discipline and physical wellness.
“Who knows? The country’s next athletics prodigy, national champion, or international medalist might just be a young islander who only needs the right facility and opportunity,” Demerey said.
The inspection marks closer coordination between the PSC and the provincial government to finalize technical groundwork and funding schedules for the island-province’s flagship sports venue. /gsg
