Dapper Music expands business

Dapper Music and Entertainment says it is expanding beyond record production and artist management into digital distribution, publishing and live events as it seeks to diversify its revenue streams.
The development comes as the Lagos-based company emerged as Nigeria’s leading locally owned music company in the first half of 2026, with a 3.82 per cent market share, according to TurnTable Charts’ H1 2026 Market Share Report.
The ranking highlights the company’s position among locally owned music businesses as it expands its operations across different segments of the music industry.
Founded in 2018, Dapper Music and Entertainment is the record label arm of Dapper Group, which also operates Dvpper Digital, S94 Publishing, Bangers Only Productions and Dapper Live. Together, the businesses cover several stages of the music value chain, including artist development, digital distribution, publishing rights management and live entertainment.
According to a statement shared with Sunday Scoop, the structure enables the group to operate beyond recorded music and explore opportunities to commercialise music through different channels.
While digital distribution connects recordings with streaming platforms, publishing involves managing and commercialising rights to musical compositions. Live events provide another avenue for generating revenue from artists and their work.
Dapper Group said it generates more than one billion streams annually but did not disclose the revenue generated from those streams or the contribution of each business to its overall earnings.
The volume of streams alone does not establish profitability, which also depends on factors such as rights ownership, distribution agreements and the costs of developing and promoting artists.

The founder and Chief Executive Officer of the group, Damilola “Dapper” Akinwunmi, said the company’s ranking reflected its commitment to artist development and its ambition to build a sustainable business over the long term.
He said, “Eight years ago, we started with a conviction that Nigerian music built properly, artist first and for the long term, could compete with anyone. To be recognised at the top of this list is a reflection of that work, and it belongs to every artist, writer, producer and member of this team who has contributed to it. We are building for the next eight years, not celebrating the last,” he said.
The company said it would continue investing in building a lasting African music and entertainment business, with operations designed to support the wider creative industry.
However, the market share report provided by Dapper did not include figures for competing music businesses or explain the methodology used to calculate its 3.82 per cent share.
The figure establishes the company’s position in the report’s ranking of locally owned music companies but does not indicate its share of total industry revenue or provide a direct measure of its financial performance.
