KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 — Dr Muhammad Solehin Saleh, the elder brother of Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, is among 16 Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) candidates contesting the Melaka state election.

Muhammad Solehin, 40, is representing the party in the Bemban state seat under the Jasin parliamentary constituency in a four-cornered fight, Sinar Harian reported.

He will face Muhammad Rabaie Ab Hamid of Bersatu, Mohd Yadzil Yaakub of PN-Wawasan and independent candidate Abd Halim Said.

Muhammad Solehin is a medical doctor with a Bachelor of General Medicine from Universitas Sriwijaya, Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Akmal is defending the Merlimau seat for Barisan Nasional (BN) in a straight fight against Pakatan Harapan’s Rahayu Hamzah of Amanah.

In the 2021 Melaka state election, Akmal retained the seat for Umno-BN with a majority of 3,248 votes.

He was later appointed state executive councillor in charge of health before being moved to the rural development, agriculture and food security portfolio in 2023.
