Indonesia stresses lasting ties with China, non-aligned doctrine

Translate

Beijing (ANTARA) - Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin emphasized lasting bilateral relations with China while reaffirming Jakarta's non-aligned foreign policy doctrine at the Beijing Xiangshan Forum on Wednesday.

"We are a constitutional country with national interests. Even so, we adhere to a free and active foreign policy strategy," Sjamsoeddin said, underscoring Indonesia's commitment to engaging all global partners to serve its national interests and public expectations.

Sjamsoeddin expressed full support for the security summit, which brings together military officials, diplomats, and scholars from across Asia, Europe, and the United States.

"We have made significant contributions through bilateral and multilateral engagements," he added, citing the ongoing Indonesia-China Defense Cooperation Agreement.

Opening the conference, Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun declared that global security governance depends on concrete outcomes, stating Beijing's intent to enhance joint military capabilities and build international trust.

The forum follows high-level August defense talks in Jakarta, where the two nations agreed to bolster joint maritime security along critical shipping lanes and step up operations against transnational crime, asset recovery, and online scams.

The 11th Beijing Xiangshan Forum, held under the theme "Build Consensus on Stability, Advance Security Governance Together," runs through Sept. 17 with delegates from dozens of countries, including Russia, Germany, North Korea, and ASEAN member states.
