Former Italy and Juventus star Angelo Di Livio insists Federico Chiesa ‘made a mistake joining Liverpool’ and should come to Roma, while ‘Juventus have players unworthy of the jersey.’

Di Livio amassed 40 senior caps for Italy, while in the Juventus jersey he won the Champions League, three Serie A titles, Coppa Italia, Intercontinental Cup and two editions of the Italian Supercup.

Chiesa has struggled for playing time at Anfield and so far has been reticent to end the Premier League experience, even though he barely sets foot on the field.

Roma could well try to bring him back to Serie A in the January transfer window.

“Chiesa made a mistake joining Liverpool,” Di Livio told Retesport.

“Someone who is able to play football like that doesn’t just lose his talent. He needs to be recovered, but I would sign him, seeing as he can play on both wings.

“Under Gian Piero Gasperini, Chiesa would get back into the Azzurri side.”

Since making the transfer to Liverpool from Juventus in the summer of 2024, Chiesa amassed only 51 competitive appearances for the club, scoring five goals and providing five assists.

He played a total 1,194 minutes of football in over two years.

Di Livio spent much of his club career at Juventus and is not impressed with the current group of players at the disposal of Luciano Spalletti.

“The squad is poor, there are players unworthy of wearing the Bianconeri jersey. I never thought I’d see the day when players in Turin can lose and nothing happens, it’s all so calm.

“Before thinking it is only Spalletti’s fault, and he does have some responsibility, I would look at the quality of the squad that has been built.”

Juventus were beaten 2-0 by Genoa last night in the midweek round.
