Morning recap: NMDPRA cracks down on petrol under-dispensing, APC challenges Atiku’s substituted service request, other top stories

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has intensified its crackdown on filling stations accused of under-dispensing petrol to motorists, directing operators to check and recalibrate their dispensing equipment.

Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress has challenged an order for substituted service on President Bola Tinubu in a suit filed by Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress over the President’s eligibility for the 2027 election.

Elsewhere, the United States has announced new visa restrictions targeting people who knowingly facilitate “birth tourism”, while Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has faced criticism over his late arrival at the team’s camp in Uyo.

Filling station operators across the country are under pressure to check and recalibrate their dispensing equipment as the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority intensifies its crackdown on outlets accused of under-dispensing petrol to motorists.

The latest directive followed previous enforcement operations during which several filling stations were sealed for short-measuring customers.

2. Tinubu credentials: APC challenges Atiku’s substituted service request

The All Progressives Congress has written to the Federal High Court in Abuja to argue that an order for substituted service granted against President Bola Tinubu in the suit filed by Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress was needless.

The suit challenges Tinubu’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election.

3. US announces new visa restrictions for birth tourism facilitators

The United States has announced new visa restrictions targeting people who knowingly engage in or facilitate “birth tourism” to the country.

US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, said the policy would apply to owners, operators and managers of commercial birth tourism networks, visa “fixers” who coach applicants to commit fraud, and foreign medical providers who knowingly facilitate such travel.

4. Okoye faces backlash over habitual Eagles late arrival

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is the last player to report to the team’s camp in Uyo ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

The Super Eagles camp opened on Sunday, with 23 players arriving on Monday and taking part in the team’s first training session, leaving the Udinese goalkeeper as the only absentee.
