Haruhi Suzumiya's Real-Life School Opens to Public 1 Last Time
The Haruhi Suzumiya franchise announced on Tuesday that Nishinomiya Kita High School (literally, Nishinomiya North High School), series creator Nagaru Tanigawa's alma mater and the model for the story's North High School, will hold its "last" open campus event for locals and fans. The event will run on November 21 between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. with four pre-reserved timeslots for 250 guests each. Tickets were 1,000 yen (about US$6) each, but all 1,000 tickets have been sold.

The event will feature a campus tour of the locations seen in the anime, an AR/VR experience, an event planned by the current students at the high school, and a stamp rally.
This is the second time Nishinomiya Kita High School has opened its doors to the public and fans of the Haruhi Suzumiya franchise. The school previously held an open campus in November 2025. Prior to the event, the Haruhi Suzumiya staff noted that many fans have made a "pilgrimage" to Nishinomiya Kita High School due to the anime, but the school had not been officially open to the public until then.
Nishinomiya Kita High School announced in 2022 that it would merge with Nishinomiya Kabutoyama High School to become Nishinomiya Kurakuen High School. The new high school uses the same campus as Nishinomiya Kita High School. The name change is set to officially take place in the 2027 academic year next spring, following the graduation of current third-year students at Nishinomiya Kita High School. However, incoming students have already been using the new Nishinomiya Kurakuen High School name since April of 2025.
The first season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya anime series premiered in 2006 in a non-linear order, and was rebroadcast in 2009 with new episodes and a new chronological order. Kyoto Animation animated the show's first and second seasons. Bandai Entertainment previously held the license to both series, but Funimation rereleased the anime in 2016. The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya anime film opened in 2010. Bandai Entertainment and later Funimation released the film on home video.
The novels have also inspired a manga and spinoff manga. Several of the spinoff manga have also inspired anime works.
