KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 17 — Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) has appointed Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd's (BPHB) wholly-owned subsidiary Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd (BPSB) as an approved port operator for Bintulu Port for 30 years, from September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2056.

BPHB said the appointment was approved by the Sarawak legislative assembly.

“The appointment is set out in the Bintulu Port Authority (Sarawak) (Appointment of Approved Port Operator) Notification, 2026, published in the Sarawak Government Gazette, Part II, dated September 10, 2026. The notification was made under section 12(2)(a) of the Port Authorities Ordinance, 1961,” it said in a stock exchange filing.

On June 23, 2026, the Sarawak Ministry of Infrastructure and Port Development notified BPSB that the government had approved in principle the appointment of BPSB as the approved port operator for Bintulu Port under Section 12(2)(a) of the Port Authorities Ordinance, 1961.

BPHB said BPSB “shall perform, carry out or provide the port undertakings at Bintulu Port subject to full compliance with the ordinance and any by-laws, regulations or subsidiary legislation made under it.”

BPSB will also carry out the terms and conditions of the Heads of Agreement (HOA) dated July 27, 2026, entered into between the Sarawak state government, Bintulu Port Authority and BPSB, it added.

“The HOA terms and conditions shall continue to apply until the Port Operation Concession Agreement (POCA) is duly executed by those parties. Upon execution, the POCA shall be binding on BPSB and govern its operation of Bintulu Port,” said BPHB. — Bernama
