Election Day: How was YOUR voting experience?

Translate

All voting stations have opened without glitches as South Africans cast their ballots in the 2026 Local Government Elections, Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) chairperson Mosotho Moepya says.

Speaking at the Results Operations Centre in Midrand on Wednesday, 4 November, Moepya urged registered voters to cast their ballots at the voting stations where they are registered.

Follow instructions

He also reminded voters to mark their ballot papers in private and follow the instructions of election officials.

“Glitches are not so easy to handle but we have not had them at this stage,” Moepya said.

“All indications we have at this stage is that all is up and running.”

He added that the indications were that voting stations had opened successfully “almost everywhere in the country”.

IEC warns against election interference

The Commission has warned that campaigning, canvassing, intimidation and attempts to influence voters inside voting stations are prohibited.

Moepya said anyone who contravenes relevant electoral laws could face a fine or imprisonment of up to five years.

He also called on voters to guard against misinformation and disinformation during the election.

The IEC has urged eligible voters to participate peacefully and follow the rules governing the voting process.
