Ajibade shares update after successful surgery

Translate

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has said she has successfully undergone surgery on the fractured fibula she suffered in Nigeria’s 2028 Olympic qualifier against Comoros, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Paris Saint-Germain forward confirmed the news in an Instagram post on Saturday, thanking supporters for their love, prayers and support since the injury.

“Surgery done. Recovery mode on. Thank you all for the love and prayers. Back soon for His greater glory,” the 26-year-old wrote.

Ajibade was hurt in Nigeria’s 5-0 win over Comoros in the second leg of the second-round qualifier at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne, Ogun State. She started the game but was forced off after a collision with a Comoros defender and was stretchered away before being replaced by Folashade Ijamilusi.

Nigeria still won comfortably, with Uchenna Kanu and Toni Payne scoring twice each and Christy Ucheibe adding a penalty. The result gave the ten-time African champions a 7-0 aggregate victory and a place in the third round of the qualifiers.

The setback comes at a bright time for Ajibade, who joined PSG on a two-year deal after captaining Nigeria to a record 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title in 2025.

She has four goals in all competitions this season, including one in the UEFA Champions League and another in PSG’s 3-1 win over Fleury in the Arkema Première Ligue, and had scored in two consecutive appearances before the international break.

Her recovery timeline has not been confirmed.

Reports in France have suggested she could be out until the end of the year, while others have talked of about two months, but the Super Falcons and PSG are hopeful she will return to full fitness in due course.
